Certifications, Qualifications, Grooming schools & courses

Post by littles on Tue Aug 11, 2009 1:02 pm

Hi all,

I am very interested to know where we all stand with our qualifications / certifications etc, as I have been looking around online at grooming courses and must say I am quite confused as to what is required to qualify as a professional pet groomer?
I'd love to hear what certifications you all have, or if you are unqualified (even if you've been grooming for 10 years!).
Also, what grooming courses or schools did you use and how did you find them overall?
Lastly, is there a requirement by law to be a certified groomer before you can professionally groom?

I'd love to hear your feedback on this one!

Hi,

It is an interesting point you've made here addressing qualifications of all groomers
professionally. Considering there isn't a really classic grooming school in Australia.
The Tafe in qld has just started one up but they usually employ teachers of vertually
a century of expertise in proactive years of experience. But since we are a multicultural country there may have been someone whom has come from the USA or Europe whom have taken up the job in Tafe not sure on this. But practice makes purfect if you are even lucky enough to get a professional Breeder to show you her
secrets or do a volunteer job to watch and even learn in some of the grooming salons then this should help you start or buy your favourite pet and learn to groom from scratch. If you have never groomed before then to get a taste of what it's like then even Vets will take in volunteers to help out with grooming. So I hope this helps.
I am also not sure if they have commenced competitions here in Australia for Grooming
like the Americans have done so and the Europeans come over there to compets.
Interesting I'm sure good luck.

Hi Littles

There's been some extensive discussion regarding this subject except not sure what heading to search for it. Is there a sub title on the home page maybe.
