Post by Cessnock on Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:21 pm

had this little fella in today...from the outward apperance you would never of know the mess we found Sad

was able to remove most of the grass seeds...the vet can get the rest & mum is now more educated into the problems these little buggers can cause her boy ...a 7 is now his summer haircut choice :-)

Ouch! What sort of grass seed did he get? Any pics? Can you post up to here so people can see it and beware of it. If you don't tell he has an owner, I would thought he got abuse badly.... Sad Btw, he is not desex yet too!?

you can see them in the 2nd pic Terry ...the little green things ..nasty little things...lucky mum was at the salon during the groom so we could show her what we found & chat about how to aviod these in future...she had no idea they exisited either.

& yes he has his boy bits..there is no rule out there saying you have to desex a dog :-)

PS I have found over the years to always take pics of thing you come across during grooms to show parents when they come to collect so you cannot be blamed for something that was already there..."here look at what we found"..show pic of the messy abcess ..."now see we have clipped the area clean around it so your vet can get a better look" saves them thinking you may of nicked a dog & it got infected :-)

I had a similar case once a guy brought a spoodle in after taking it to the vet he said that he had grass seeds in one foot that the vet tried to take out but asked for the dog to be clipped more before he treated the foot.

Well I spent I think it would have been an hour picking grass seeds off the dogs entire body. The poor thing was such a calm placid dog just stood with its head on my shoulder as I pulled each one out.

I put white towel on the table first so I could collect them all and show the owner how many where there. All he said to me was well I canít stop him walking through the grass thatís the way we travel home.

I'm so glad we don't seem to have those here. We do have burrs, little round balls that are just like velcro material, but they don't do that kind of damage!

Actually cess would it be ok if i use these photo's to educate clients. some don't believe me when i tell them the damage that can occur with grass seeds. I had one client tell me that its not a big deal. at least this may make them a bit more concious about them
