graduated cat school!

Post by lorie on Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:47 am

Went to South Carolina and completed Danelle German's cat school.

I come in at : third in Ct. 68th in the USA, 86th in the world!

Everything about it was challenging and very exciting, finished with my practical tests and was able to attempt a few creative things, a spiral tail and a pink ribbon, colored with blow pen.

The written tests had my worried but I studied and passed all of them with good marks. The area was beautiful, the weather awesome and the shops and restaurants abundant, not to mention the gorgeous hotel!

Now, to promote this side of my business, this is the hard part! I donn't know where to begin..

You need a website. Everyone looks online. If there are any cat clubs in your area that would be a good place. All pet food stores, fliers and new business cards. Any low cost spay or neuter clinic, we have tons here. You get the idea.

Thanks, Doggiedoos, but I don't know one single groomer who isn't good at something else also! personally, I admire the ones who are brave enough to compete in any area...Very Happy

One of the lectures was by a web designer, he is now working on my logo, then the site. He should be done early Jan.

It's not really knowing WHERE to put the info, it's writing the intro letter that's put me over the edge. I finally gave it to an editor friend who should be getting it back to me soon!

Anthony, I waffled for awhile then, found out partial to poodles was going and since I sort of knew her, I got Natalie and Audrey from her, I took the plunge, It worked out great a roomates, she was there to study hard also.

On the first day of actual grooming she got bit on the arm, I got bit on the arm even worse and another girl got bit on the hand.

Kim had brought antibiotics just in case, i did not. I had to calll my dr and get a script sent to the local drug, then go to ER to get a tetanus.

The other girl ended up breaking her arm the night she got bit so she was OUT.

Another girl came from Chicago where she owns a grooming school. She failed most of her tests , did not enjoy learning at all, and took the last test on the last day and did not even stay to find out if she passed it, she just left for good!

I was very surprised someone would come so far, pay so much money to do that!

She probably found out she wasn't cut out for it Lorie. I don't like cat grooming and only take a select few. I can't afford a bad bite, had one already. And I do have an air muzzle. It has my blood on it. I can't justify the expense for the few I get. I am going underground in a few weeks just for dog grooms.

Yes, the air muzzle is my new best friend! It was my own fault I got bit, the cat was fine in the cattyshackvac then, all of a sudden it nailed me when my arm was in there!!

I think the girl from Chicago came and figured to just learn enough to bring back to her students, she has no intention of grooming cats herself. I imagine she will copy the study material , and make her STUDENTS learn it...

Most likely. If she didn't stay for the whole thing she did miss alot. Her loss.

I didn't get them, I got the bravuras for finishing, they work great. I got them a month before cat school started and said I WOULD NOT use them on dogs, they are my CAT CLIPPERS! that lasted about a day, then applied to natalies face Very Happy Very Happy

I have too many other clippers to justify getting the swichblades, that is what she recommends for the rough cut, or a comb cut, I believe. But, I have wahls, German red's , osters, and my clipper vac has andis clippers. I can't get past the andis for most everything, they are just so reliable, so I have two...

I like your Aesculap clippers.
Let me know how your bravuras hold up. They are cordless right? I keep going thru motors on my speedfeed and don't know why. I need to buy another motor before I move. Piss me off.
