Ring Worm and canine cough in the same day
I was washing a Husky the other day when I noticed a round reddish bald patch on his skin and after taking a closer look it looked a lot like ring worm, I have seen ring worm before on a dog and I also contracted it about 10 years ago. We decided to cancel the the rest of the bookings for the day and bleach out the trailer and I also let the owner of the Husky know about the bald patch, he already knew about them and was taking the dog to the vet in a week.
It wasn't a good day that day as I had already cancelled my first appointment because the clients dog was pretty matted and she didn't want the vet to think she was neglecting her dog, I naturally asked why she was taking her dog to the vet and she said because she has kennel cough! I told her that canine cough is highly contagious and would contaminate the trailer. I had worked in the kennel industry for many years and have seen how quickly the different strains of canine cough can spread through dogs, so I didn't want to risk it.
Has anyone else had to deal with ring worm or canine cough or any other contagious disease in their salons or trailers??

Yeah I am currently washing 6 dogs from the same family that have ringworm, they get a medicated wash of malaseb that sits for 10min before you rinse. I do them weekly. (2x pointer, 2x cocker spaniel, a Std poodle and a staffy) I just make sure that after I wash them I wash out my tub with disinfectant. Also the malaseb kills bacteria and fungus so I'm not too worried about my trailer becoming contaminated. I would be a lot more worried if I had done a dog with kennel cough.
Dettol makes stuff that you can wash your towels with that will kill the fungus too, you can get it from most supermarkets.

oh, I always thought that if you groomed a dog with ringworm you had to bleach everything, bath, grooming tools and the trailer because of the spores that come off, that's why if you have a dog with ringworm in your home you need to vacume a lot and clean the house continuously to prevent re-infection later on down the track. I was concerned more about infecting all the puppies and old dogs we have go through our trailer.
I'll do some research
