Cramping hands

Post by peke-lover on Wed Jan 05, 2011 6:06 pm

Does anyone else have this problem?

About 2 years ago I went and got every test done possible because I was convinced i had arthritis. The finger knuckles would click and carry on and both hands were very stiff when I woke in the morning, but no swelling. i came out clear. It has eased off to the point I only have the odd clicking, but the cramping has never gone away. Up until this week it has only affected one finger at a time, now three times this week, the whole hand has cramped up on the spot making me drop whatever I have in it at the time.

Just wondering if anyone else has or has had problems in this area.

Try a mineral supplement with calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Maybe have those levels tested. Is it in the fingers or the palm or wrist?

All the fingers, all at the same time. Never thought it could be diet related. I will try that, thanks. Not too good at taking supplements, i always forget but I will just have to try harder. I have been on multi vitamins off and on, maybe that's not enough of a kick.

Lisa. I am guessing from my Nursing & OHS background that it may be an Occupational Overuse Syndrome issue (RSI). Perhaps see an Occupational therapist who can have a look at the work you do, maybe make some suggestions on what you can do to help alleviate the problem, and give you some exercises to do.

Mine is a little different. Hands do cramp, sometimes swelling. Mostly tendonitis in the elbow and now I have that CMC thing going so grapping and picking up is hard. It doesn't bother me too much while I'm grooming, mostly at the other job. I would try some therapy and definitely and inti inflammatory. Ice and heat as needed.

Change hands regularly, and make sure when you scissor that you have the rings - one in the thumb and one on the ring finger, as it balances the load. It helps!
